DEAN RUMMEL

NORTH DAKOTA SENATE

A lifelong Dickinson resident, business leader, and State Senator, Dean Rummel delivers results for District 37. With decades of experience balancing budgets and a record of conservative leadership in the Legislature, Dean is focused on protecting taxpayers, strengthening our economy, and keeping North Dakota strong for the next generation.

DEAN'S PRIORITIES

LEADERSHIP & IMPACT

Dean has a proven track record of leading District 37 with experience, common sense, and fiscal discipline. He has earned respect for his leadership in the Senate, holding key roles, including:

  • Vice Chair of Senate Finance and Taxation Committee
  • Chairman of the Tax Reform and Relief Advisory Interim Committee
  • Member of the Standing Transportation Committee and Interim Judiciary Committee

As Vice Chair of the Senate Finance and Taxation Committee, he was instrumental in passing the largest property tax relief and reform package in North Dakota history, allowing eligibility for all primary residents to access a $1,600 property tax credit. The package also capped local political subdivisions to a 3% increase on their property tax budgets, giving families and seniors real, lasting property tax relief.

As a business leader, Dean Rummel spent nearly 40 years at TMI Systems Design, rising from staff accountant to President and Chief Operating Officer before retiring in 2017. His career was built on responsible growth, balanced budgets, and long-term planning — the same principles he brings to state government today.

ROOTED IN FAMLY & COMMUNITY

Dean and his wife Danita have raised their family in Dickinson, where they remain deeply involved in the community. Dean has served on the Dickinson School Board, as School Board President, on regional healthcare and human service boards, and with numerous civic, education, and public safety organizations over several decades. He understands District 37 because he’s lived it — as a parent, employer, taxpayer, public servant and volunteer.

ISSUES & PRIORITIES

Building on the Legislature’s Success of delivering real, lasting Property Tax Relief

Last session, Dean helped pass the largest property tax relief and reform package in North Dakota history. He is committed to building on that success because families, seniors, and homeowners deserve certainty and fairness.

Responsible Budgets & Fiscal Discipline

With nearly 40 years as a business executive, including serving as President and COO of TMI Systems Design, Dean understands how budgets actually work.

In the Legislature, he will continue to lead with real-world financial experience, data-driven decision-making and a commitment to balanced budgets and accountability.

Strong Economy. Good Jobs. Local Opportunity

Dean supports policies that keep North Dakota competitive and growing — without overregulation or unnecessary government interference. He is a strong advocate for North Dakota’s energy and agriculture industries, he will focus on smart, long-term economic investments, and he will work to advance workforce development that meets local needs. A strong private sector means stronger communities across southwest North Dakota.

Education & Workforce Development

Dean has spent decades supporting education — from serving as President of the Dickinson School Board to working on statewide education committees.

He supports:

  • Quality K–12 education
  • Career and technical training
  • Teacher recruitment and retention
  • Preparing students for real-world careers

Education is an investment in North Dakota’s future.

Public Safety, Healthcare & Community Strength

Dean believes strong communities are built on safety, access to care, and local leadership.

His work includes:

  • Supporting public safety and first responders
  • Improving access to healthcare in rural North Dakota
  • Serving on regional hospital and human service advisory boards

Decisions should be made close to home, by people who understand our communities.

District 37 has always valued experience, common sense, and fiscal discipline. I am proud of the work we have accomplished over the past two sessions – delivering property tax relief and reform, responsible fiscal governing, and making smart investments into long term economic projects that impact our state. I would be honored to have District 37 support to continue to build on these successes.
